# About This Tool

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is a standard for storing interchange information in digital photography files. It records technical details like ISO, aperture, white balance, and geolocation at the moment of capture.

Privacy & Security

We prioritize your privacy. All processing for the EXIF Viewer occurs locally on your device. Once you close the tool or perform a new task, all temporary assets are cleared from memory.

# Understanding Common EXIF Data

Metadata can be technical. Here is what the most common tags mean for your photography:

Tag Meaning Why It Matters
ISO Speed Sensor Sensitivity Higher ISO means brighter photos but more "noise" (grain).
F-Number Aperture Controls depth of field. Lower numbers (f/1.8) create blurry backgrounds.
Exposure Time Shutter Speed Fast speeds (1/1000) freeze action; slow speeds (1/30) blur motion.
GPS Info Geolocation Latitude/Longitude coordinates showing exactly where the photo was taken.
DateTimeOriginal Timestamp The precise second the shutter button was pressed.

Privacy & Security

Most users don't realize their smartphone photos contain precise location tracking. Use this tool to audit your personal photos before posting them online. If you need to remove this data, simply re-saving the image using our Image Compressor or taking a screenshot of the photo will often strip sensitive tags.

# Frequently Asked Questions

Is my location data safe?
Yes. Our tool is a 'Client-Side Viewer', meaning it runs entirely in your web browser. Your photo (and its GPS data) never leaves your device and is never seen by us or anyone else.
Can I edit or change the EXIF data?
This tool is a read-only viewer designed for inspection. To edit data (like changing the date or removing GPS), you would need a dedicated EXIF Editor software.
Why do some photos have no data?
Social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) automatically strip EXIF data to protect user privacy. If you download an image from there, it will likely be empty. Screenshots also do not contain original camera metadata.
Does this work on RAW files?
Browsers have limited support for heavy RAW files (CR2, NEF, ARW). We recommend converting them to JPG first, or using our tool for standard web images (JPG, PNG, WebP, TIFF).
What is the 'Shutter Count'?
It's the total number of photos a camera has taken. This tag is often hidden in the 'Maker Notes' section and is crucial for checking the wear-and-tear on used cameras.
Can I view copyright info?
Yes. If the photographer added copyright tags (Artist, Copyright Holder) in their camera settings or editing software (Lightroom), it will appear in our report.
Is this tool free?
Yes, it is completely free to use with no hidden costs or daily limits.

This tool is actively maintained to support modern standards and evolving browser security.
